St. Bridgid is known as the female patron saint of Ireland. While sitting at her father's, a pagean chieftain, bedside before his death, she weaved the first St. Bridgid's Cross from the rushes on the floor.  After seeing this cross, her father is said to have coverted to Christianity just before his death.
