The beautifully handcrafted pewter Celtic cross is embossed with Celtic designs taken from the Kells manuscripts, the most famous Irish artefact. Celtic symbols and designs have been around for centuries, and were first found on Ogham stones, in manuscripts drawn/written by the monks or in old monasteries around Ireland. If you visit Dublin you can see the Books of Kells in Trinity College.
This is a lovely gift for a religious occasion, or as a lovely addition to any home.
Standing cross (7" High).
The ancient craft of pewter making was revived in Ireland by Paddy Collins in Mullingar in 1974. Paddy’s son Peter now runs the business and it employs 16 people from the local area. Most of the pieces are still made in the traditional way in their workshop in the midlands of Ireland by specially trained craftspeople in the old casting methods, meticulous assembly and delicate hand finishing.
